Common questions about pet sitting costs
How much does a pet sitter cost?
Nationally, pet sitters charge about $20–$40 per 30-minute drop-in visit, $75–$150 per overnight stay, and $40–$85 per night for boarding. At Pet Sitter Frederick, drop-in pet sitting visits, dog walks, and cat sitting visits are $25 each, doggie daycare is $45 per day, home-style dog boarding is $75 per day, and overnight sitting in your home is $100 per night.
How much does overnight pet sitting cost?
Overnight pet sitting typically runs $75–$150 per night depending on your area and the sitter's experience. Our overnight home sitting is $100 per night — a sitter stays in your home from 10pm to 6am so your pets keep their nighttime routine and your house stays occupied.
How much should you tip a pet sitter?
Tipping is never required but always appreciated. Most clients who tip give 10–20% of the total booking, or a flat $10–$20 for shorter bookings. Many clients tip more around holidays or for last-minute saves.
Do pet sitters charge extra for a second pet or a large dog?
Usually, yes — and our add-ons are small and flat. Dog walks and drop-in pet sitting visits are $10 for each additional pet, cat sitting visits are $5 for each additional cat, and overnight home sitting adds $10 for a second dog. Dog boarding is $75 per day for the first dog and $65 per day for a second dog, with $5 extra for puppies. Doggie daycare actually gives you $10 off your second dog.
Do pet sitters charge more on holidays?
Most do. We add a flat $5 per booking around major U.S. holidays (MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and December 20 – January 2) — much lower than the 25–50% holiday premiums common at kennels.
Is hiring a pet sitter cheaper than boarding?
For one or two pets, drop-in pet sitting visits (ours are $25) usually cost less than boarding, and your pets stay in their own home. For dogs that need constant company, home-style boarding at $75 per day is still typically cheaper than overnight care plus multiple daily visits.
